More! Give me MORE!

Dateline: Washington. D.C. 1 Aug 2007

Unhappy with the punishment handed out, Mary Tillman will open a new lawsuit this morning, demanding the immediate execution of every soldier currently serving on active duty, reserve status, national guard, and all retired Army still living, as retribution for her son being killed in Afghanistan. "I don't think it's an unrealistic request under the circumstances," she was quoted as saying yesterday.

Some people's grief runs so deep that nothing can assuage it. If it were my child that was killed and then covered up by his commanders and government..I don't know that my grief could be assuaged either. I feel sorry for her..nothing will ever bring her son back..I hope she finds some peace..

You may not agree with her, and hopefully you will never know what her pain is like...the loss of a child...but I don't know if mocking her helps any. Sorry but this just hit a chord..

You know...as I see it, I might rather be told that my son died in battle and not in an accident.
Not that either death made him any less of a hero.
I think what diminishes his name is his mothers actions...not a cover up, not mistakes made my the military, even though I suppose there are some. War is hell.
I'm sorry for all the losses, and all the moms who've laid their boys to rest...
I wish Mrs. Tilman could do the same.

The Tillman family deserved the truth. We all do.

I am grateful to all the soldiers and their families for their service and sacrifice.

Munich, September of 1972.

The US Olympic basketball team, undefeated for all time in Olympic competition, threw the ball up into the air as they defeated the Soviets in the Gold Medal game. As they raced around celebrating, something was wrong. The officials were huddled around the scorekeeper whispering.

They decided to put 5 seconds back on the clock, and never gave an explanation. The 3 referees were from Soviet occupied Eastern European countries.

The Soviets inbounded the ball, took a shot, and missed. Pandemonium ensued again. Celebrating a second time, the U.S. team was informed the clock operator goofed up (which of course he hadn't done in either instance).

3 more seconds were put onto the clock. The devastated U.S. team just stood there and refused to move as the Soviet's put the ball into play and scored a lay-up to win by one.

I was total bullshit, and an abomination in the world of sports that will never be surpassed. 35 years later, the Silver medals are still housed at the International Olympic Headquarters, as the US team refused to accept them.

6 inquiries later, Mary Tillman - in her insistance that none of the investigations, demotions in rank, or general punnishment was "good enough" - has become those referees that wouldn't allow the game to end until they got the result they wanted.

The obvious difference is this:

Mary will never get her gold medal. Her son is gone. All she's going to accomplish is to further her pain and regret, embarassing her nation and herself in the process.

Everyone has grief, but life has no clock that can be reset time and again.

It is what it is, and there are no do-overs - justified or not.

This is very true and no one can step inside someone else either. I suppose she feels she needs to do what she needs to do. I do hope she finds some peace.

Perhaps she will.

just talking to my old man about this last night and he'd immediately jumped to the worst conclusions based on his personal feelings for the current administration and the war. and i'm sure i'm just as guilty of it in other ways.
