Al Gore brought out his newest invention today, to the absolute delight of hundreds of millions world-wide.

Awww poor Al Gore. To some he will forever be remembered for his FAUX PAS in regard to his inventing the internet..and yes I do agree that was pretty silly...

But poor us because we must endure the dailyGEMSfrom our fearless leader...Like this example:

"If the Iranians were to have a nuclear weapon they could proliferate."—Washington D.C., March 21, 2006

or

"No question that the enemy has tried to spread sectarian violence. They use violence as a tool to do that."—Washington, D.C., March 22, 2006

what a travesty..I think I'd rather have Al Gore right about now.

My favorite: "I don't speak Mexican"

I forgive him though. I don't speak Canadian, and they're practically British like us.

I agree: Gore's "I invented the internet" is so much worse than "The reason I keep insisting that there was a relationship between Iraq and Saddam and al Qaeda: because there was a relationship between Iraq and al Qaeda" (GWB inititally refuting the 9/11 Commission report, 6/17/2004).

For the record, no one has proven there WASN'T a relationship between Saddam and Al Quaeda. There is proof that Al gore only invented the Ginsu knife, and quite possible the first Electric Orange Squeezer

"For the record, no one has proven there WASN'T a relationship between Saddam and Al Quaeda."

9/11 Report, section 10.3, para 3.

9/11 Commission Staff Statement 15: "Overview of the Enemy"

Bush: No Iraq link to 9/11 found. "al-Zarqawi made his way to Iraq, where his leg was amputated. Unconfirmed reports claim he then visited northern Iraq, where a militant Islamic group affiliated with al-Qaida is encamped not far from the border with Iran. The group, however, far from being an ally of Saddam, sought to replace his secular government with an Islamic regime. A senior intelligence official, who asked not to be identified, said the information linking the group, Ansar al Islam, to Saddam comes "almost exclusively from defectors produced by the Iraqi opposition. They are not uniformly credible."

I know you are going to say that 9/11 wasn't and isn't the sum total of AQs operations. But in what context was Mr. Bush citing these alleged Hussein-AQ links?

"Before 11 September 2001, many in the world believed that Saddam Hussein could be contained. But chemical agents and lethal viruses and shadowy terrorist networks are not easily contained. Imagine those 19 hijackers with other weapons, and other plans - this time armed by Saddam Hussein. It would take just one vial, one canister, one crate slipped into this country to bring a day of horror like none we have ever known."
President Bush in his State of the Union address, January 2003. He made these comments in the context of the links he perceived between Saddam Hussein and al-Qaeda.

I guess it all hinges on the word "wasn't" and in what context GWB was alledging links. Is this one of those "it depends on what the meaning of is is" situations?

Potato, potatoh... oh lets call the whole thing off...

ahhhh...the 9/11 commission report.

Are these the same people that came out with the report that the Seattle Seahawks were screwed out of at least 4 calls in the Super Bowl? Such wisdom to piece together events that have already happened.

HOLD UP...HOLD UP!!!

This just in. The Japanese were stockpiling steel in the 1930's. American made steel from Pensylvania no less. I do believe the may have been using that to build an armada of ships. Let's form a commission of hindsighted dipshit assholes and look into this, shall we? You never know. Those Japanese may try and attack us at a weak point in our defenses.

What? You're kidding!?! They did? Why didn't someone tell me?

By your logic then, by seeming to link Saddam to Al Quadea AFTER 9/11 by talking to the same intelligence and administration officials later interviewed by the 9/11 Commission, Mr Bush was being a "hindsighted dipshit asshole".

That's outrageous! Nobody has ever accused the President of having hindsight before!

I'm sorry Jl4; I'm going to call a truce at my end, as I feel I'm being disrepectful to your blog space. Your house, your rules. Its just that with my background in middle eastern history, politics, and threat analysis it pains me to see a man I want to trust- the President no less- make such egregious mistakes, and to be just a little voice among the millions, powerless to yell "Sir! This does not compute!"

And finally, let us NEVER forget it was the 9-11 commission's heavy hand that ensured that the family of the white dude from Cantor Fitzgerald got paid about $2.1 million for his troubles while Juan the janitor - the guy who brought his family over from the Dominican Republic - got paid a cool $15 grand for his death. And futhermore, let's not bring up the fact that it was Juan who saved 25 people before he died. And when we have the commission hearings, let's make sure we invite a large number of the white folks we've just made millionaires to the proceedings, but don't even THINK of inviting Juan's family, because they just might find out they got screwed in a HUUUUUUUGE way by your fine 9-11 committee. And lastly, let's make sure we say the people at fault for 9-11 are the folks in the US government. No need to mention names like Ayman Zawahiri, Osama Bin Laden, Mohamed Atta, et al. Let's throw the blame squarely in the lap of the Airman 1st class at the NSA who somehow missed the crucial intercept among the 25 thousand intercepts he has to work through evey day. It's HIS fault, after all.

The 9-11 commission...please...really...justplease...stop

Truce. How about that punch up with the Marlins? And its only spring training!

(Whispers- oh, and I commend your passion but am a bit of a loss as to what you are refering to regarding the influence of the commission on compensation: I don't remember seeing them tackle that when I read the report. I'll post you this and then let it lie).

Back to baseball- here's something from a happier, pre-9/11 world for you to sink your teeth into:
Why Opening Day should be a national holiday
